Some Polish tunes
« on: Mar 10, 2005, 08:11:02 PM »
Here are some Polish tunes(songs, because there are words to them which I didn't copy) I abc-ed from some notes I copied a few weeks back when I was at my mother-in-law's. She is a member of a Polish folklore dance/music group, she is a dancer, but also a member of the vocal trio who sing these songs and other Polish songs a capella and with very nice harmonies. They figured out these harmonies themselves as I understand it. These are the dots for the main melodies.
I've asked her about what the titles mean or what she can tell me about these particular tunes, so I'll add that info when I get it.
I'll also see if I can figure out the harmonies they do and see if I can abc those. Meanwhile I would be very interested to see if any of you-all come up with any harmonies or drones. Maybe they are the same as what they came up with, or maybe completely different, so if you come up with anything it would be interesting to see.

I've checked the abc's in concertina, and they sound ok to me, but maybe I made a mistake somewhere in copying from the notes a few weeks back, so please tell me if something sounds "off" to you.
In the fourth tune there are two D's before a rest and I think they sing those as one long note, but there was no "tie" noted in my copy so I left it out, I'll check on that as well and correct it if needed.
Enjoy!

Some more info on these tunes. I translated these comments from how my mother-in-law's short version of the litteral translation of one of the Polish members of "Mazur" http://www.mazurbreda.nl/ unfortunately just in dutch.

Walczyk Lubelski:Is the finale of the weddingdance. (Waltz)
Why are you crying Marisya, don't you know that all love is decided by in heaven.
We are going to make it together and everything will be all right.

Polka Podlaska: It's about Love again. (polka)
This is a day to be happy, because Kasia is coming from Lublin.
We are going to dance till morning, and then sleep together.
But Kasia has a hard time choosing between all those cute boys.
Janek is nice, and Jedrek as well, and Antek.... or Franek?
Tomorrow, tomorrow she'll decide, but now first we dance.

To i hola: Bad girl.
Even though I have no dowery, my mother doesn't give me to the first man that comes along.
They say I look nice, but beauty passes.
So..... as long as I'm still single, come on guys...

Bandoska
Song sung by tired workers in the fields.
Please Sun go down, you're setting too slowly.
Our feet are sore from walking, our hands ache from work.
Please Sun go down.

Ostatni Mazur: The last mazur. (Mazurka)
Before the new morning, before dusk, before you go...
Dance one last Mazur with me.
