Internet collaboration .. violin needed.
« on: Jan 15, 2005, 06:02:35 AM »
I have been into  internet collaboration for some time now and would appreciate some help with lead violin parts.

You can download the backing track, and the track with  midi violins here...

no-violins

with fake violins

Thanks

what is this "internet collaboration" system?

I'll download the files later.

Guys basically download the mp3 and stick it into your sequencer. Record a violin part to go with it, export the violin part out and save as an mp3 and email it to the guy. If he wants the violinist to play a written line, then he should supply a score as well.

I don't know this artist collaberation website so perhaps there is an upload facility. You may want to find out more about how this track is going to be used first... etc... etc..

Yep .. will post the midi tomorrow  ..  sometikes midis don't quite sync to the wmas .. but if it helps I will post.

MP3's ..  better to use wmas for initial file transfer, then when the take is finalized .. we tend to use "ape" format ...  good reasons for this choice which I will tell you about later.

...  I will Exposue the details for you soon .. (in the middle of my daughters party at the moment .. (12) ..

The artistcollaboration site  .. well a lovely bunch of hobbyists ..  the owner of the site gives us free FTP space ..  for uploads and downloads ...  he just loves his music.

He also hosts "premium" space ...  but at very good rates to support his hobby.  No adverts etc. etc.

There is a lot of room for voilin, fiddle and strings ... some of our collaborative tunes are crying out for you guys.

This site is excellent as is AC and nothing makes anyone weep like a good voilin (played well .. does it ..

so does a kid starting out! )

Haa Haa .. got ya!

Thanks for giving me your consideration.

I don't have any notation ..

but here is the midi ..  the midi was constructed by John Kwasnic.

The Falls of Richmond.

www.artistcollaboration.com/~johnnie7au/falls.mid

I have changed the drum rhythm from the midi.

Thanks

Johnnie

OH .. good question. What do I use the music for?

No plans ..  I collaborate just for the sake of it. I do post my original collaborations on mp3.com.au and soundclick.

John,

Go ahead and use musical priest as an "optional" part. Irish Reel. Widely available. I'm all your possibilities will spring from there unless that is of course the tune that inspired your friends composition.  Anyhow - I like he concept. Good music.

Mark..

Go ahead and use musical priest as an "optional" part.

I am sorry Mark, I don't understand?  :-[

The tune is a classic folkie ..  The Falls of Richmond ...  it is public domain ..  John kwaznic has it on the net as a midi arrangement...

I was simply taking the midi (with his permission)  .. and trying for a real instrument version ...   rendering the parts through a synth , replacing the drums for real ones, and hoping to get a "riverdance" feel out of it.

I think real lead violins would sound much better than the rendered midis here ..  there is no "feel" or spirit to a soundfont...  but real violin , electric or acoustic ..  you can't beat it!

Thanks

Johnnie

 :)

I'm wih you John. My recording equipment is too much of a problem to deal with right now otherwise I would lay a track for you. The "Falls of Richmond" is a tune that is directly rooted to the "Musical Priest." With that in mind, it now opens up the path to have an Irish fiddler give you a hand without much bother.  We have tons of them here so you may find quite a few more volunteers who may have well functioning equipment at the moment  I think you would be very pleased by taking the arrangement you shared with us and laying in the Musical Priest.

I hope I was a little clearer that time. My first post wasn't even clear to me. ;)

Yep ... it sounds good ... and you can hear where the meoldy comes from. I think one or two of the chords are different. But yep..  I think this would be fun for someone here to do. I think that there are two violin parts..

OK ..

I gave it a shot here ..   (U have no idea how difficult it is to get violin players to collaborate.)

 Thanks for listening anyway.

I have remixed and posted what I have (midi violin) on:-

Thanks

Johnnie  ;)  :)

Hi Folks ..

Maybe I didn't get lucky this time ..   :( :( :(

But many of my friends from www.artistcollaboration.com are just crying out for some talented violins ....

May I ppoint them in this direction ?

Mark ...

The music on AC is just so much fun ... people are ordinary guys and gals .. all different levels of experize...

Maybe some of you guys would like to develop some skills regards internet recording .. ??  These guys seem to be able to help in taht area ...  :)

Look ..    I am just a high school teacher ..  but though this internet medium I have managed to play and co-produce with guys (and make friends) with people that have played with and recorded with the likes Ray Charles and Carlos Santana..       Now that really spins me out!

So ...    Electric or acoustic ..      Consider having some fun ..

Thats the keyword ..

FUN!

May I invite some people here to post invitations if they need some real and electric violins?

OK .. CYA ..

And if anyone fancies a shot at The falls of Richmond ...

I would be honoured...

Of course you may Johnny... All I'd say, as I've mentioned before... tracks with (if needed) and without guide parts is good, chords sheets are better.. and if people want a specific melody, they should score it out...

Makes lives much easy, and makes it less time consuming....

Cheers,

Mark.

Do you have a violinless track, the link seems dead. I might give it a shot one of this days.

A score would be nice too.

I prolly won't do as good as some on the forum could do, but it should sound ok.

If you want to hear what this good old timey fiddle should sound like, take a look at this website.

http://www.joelmabus.com/falls_of_richmond_mp3.htm

where Brian Bishop, fiddle & Joel Mabus, banjo play a cracking version.
