I don't have a slow-downer so I won't go so far as to say I've made some corrections, but I've added the next measure and made a couple of changes which reflect the way I hear it anyway.

Okay - I got a little lost again and I got busy. The start of the B part is not clicking and the first B measure is flat out wrong. I'll let it sit for the long weekend. There are some very easy measures to pick out in the B part. If I could just annotate the rythym correctly I'd be done with the basic tune. I welcome any corrections and additions.

Thanks for the corrections Simon. I believe you were right on the money.

Dale, here's how I view it. Yes, I'm going a bit out of my way because I wouldn't transcribe just anyones music. A small part of the reason is because you are my friend. A large part is that I like it so much that I want to play the tune in contest. The other big part is that in my humble opinion, this tune should become a standard. One way to do that is to put it out there for everyone. Please let me know what copyright information you would like me to include and any contact information.

By the way Dale, I never asked for your permission to do this. I'm asking now. I can erase the entire post if we are over the line here.

You can do anything you want with it mark. I don't care, period. the song is copy right though our publishing company, "Nearly Famous Records" so i don't see any reason not to let the fiddlers have it. I just am happy that you like it well enough to want to learn it. I have played it lots and lots of times, but i think i was drunk when i wrote it. Not sure?

Hey Mark that came out pretty good glad you don't mind transcibing (I'm too lazy) Beside which this tune taxed the limits of my ears and playing skills ;D

With this transciption I might give is a try (probably take me a while though)

Hiya Alan - Glad you are enjoying it. I'm not finished yet. Long weekend then being sick as a dog. I'll spruce it up when I'm not playing so much catchup.

Just about done with the A part. Not sure that I'm getting the last two measures right but I don't have time to finish right now. Alan, when we get the root version done, would you mind posting the sheet music and the midi here. It's for Dale to check our work as much as for anyone else.

Yeah Dale -

I know brother. I'm going to put your variations on the music too as soon as I finish the first round. I'd love to hear your favorite variation.

Ok here is the entire first run of the tune Hoedown from Hell.
I put the tempo at 122 per half which is where Dales recording is on the piece. Make it slower by capturing these ABC's into your clipboard and pasting them on the screen at http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html ... Once you have done that, you can change the following text Q:1/2=122 to slower tempo if you like. Half speed would either be Q:1/2=61 or Q:1/4=122.

This is all well and good and helpful. You have the notes in front of you and a way to slow down the music. What all these tools do not convey is the type of sound you are looking for. Quite simply put, listen to the original and learn from it at the same time. I'm not going to put in the slides, bowing techniques or the rest of the things that makes this transcription into music. You'll have to use your ear for that. Enjoy and I'll have the variations out there soon.

Thanks for your permission Dale.

There's your tune Dale for next Fiddle Hell UK. No excuses from anyone because we have now got the dots.
Personally, I shall  be playing it in a lumpy cotswold morris style on my melodeon. ::)

Dale,

You are constantly messing with us. Did you click on the MIDI to hear the tune? It could be that you just enjoy tormenting your buddy Mark. Alan put a midi out there just so you can hear it and check the work.

Tell you what Dale. I've had to see the Doctor about this nervous tic I have that always comes around everytime you don't listen to the midis. I had to see the doctor about this and my copay was $15. The copay on the drugs was $20. I figure you owe me $35 for my own bills. On top of that my son swallowed a piece of chicken whole without chewing! That was because I didn't get to tell him to chew when I was at the Doctor. He coughed that chunk of meat out and hit my wifes new hairdo. That comes to $23 and some change.

You need to come up with $57 or theres gonna be a whuppin!!!! Just how big a fellow are you? Oh Yeah. That ain't nothing but a lite snack to me.  ;)

Peak

 - I never though I would say this but you gave me one really good reason why I shouldn't go to a Fiddle Helll in Buxton. Heh heh heh

Hahahah nope, i ain't messing with you mark and i never lie. Yes i did listen to the midi, and that sounds right to me , not exactly how i play it, but that's how i played it that day i suppose.
I am about 5'7" and 157lbs. Not to big but as they say , dynamite comes in small packages. {the last guy i said that to picked me up by the neck and said "well explode then you little s.o.b.} Like i said , I don't lie either! haha
Do you want a money order or a out of state check? Do you do the paypal thing? Probably the easiest way would be to attach it to a homing pigeon and send it your way. Expect it about the 31 of  the month. See ya!

Seriously, you guys have done a great job of transcribing Dale's tune. I had a go at playing it on fiddle this evening along with the mp3 and it was spot on the first time round. Had to slow it down a bit tio keep up mind.

Dale puts in some really interesting parts when he plays it the second time and changes the tune slightly.
It would be really ace if you could work these out as well + the fun ending.

Mark, I was thinking of learning to play this one on the panpipes as well 8)
