Rosin packed into G string
« on: Jan 05, 2020, 01:21:24 AM »
I have my bow re-haired once a year. I use helicore medium strings and I change the set at least twice a year. I usually wipe my strings after playing. But I always have to replace my G string twice as often as the others because so much rosin gets packed into it that it becomes like glass and it is really hard to control volume.

I try not to rosin too much, but maybe I am. Or, maybe I'm using bad rosin. (I have two cakes and have no idea what brand they are.) Or, maybe I should try a different brand or weight for my G string.

Any advice for me?

Clean the G string with the foot cut out of an old pair of panty hose. they work wonders for removing rosin.

So now we're at a rosin-packed G-String and a pair of panty hose. Time for me to leave before I can no longer contain my one-liners...

Buy some decent rosin then you'll know - i recommend Hills Dark but others are available....all better than "no idea"....

Clean it with a cloth and a few drops of isopropyl alcohol, but make sure that nothing drops down on the varnish.
