Hip Hop Violin 101
« on: Aug 09, 2019, 10:57:12 AM »
Hello there,

I am Marj (I'm a male) and I want to share the things that some people asked me about Hip Hop Violin
But before we go through that, what is hip hop violin? For me, the violin itself is its own genre. It only varies on the backing track that is used. Yes it is!

Here is a sample of a Hip Hop Violin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnLsfnchbGs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7UY2FkN078

These guys are good example of hip hop violin.

Well, here are the requirements in order to perform hip hop violin.

1. Backing track
-of course you need a hip hop backing track to make it a real hip hop music.
Check the drums if its hiphop-able.

2. Chops
-Chops are the violin licks that you can use per portion. Hip hop violin is like shred guitar music. You simply compiling and combining it with your track.
Hip hop violin are often played with flashy and fast licks than usual. This way, it creates a hype vibe on it.

You can borrow some chops on classical music whether they are arpeggios, pedal notes etc... it's up to your own taste!

I hope this helps everyone!

This is interesting, thank you for posting this information. I must confess, that this genre of violin music is something I know nothing about, so it's going to be fun finding out.

Hi Marj,
Welcome to Fiddle and Alternate String forum.
I've listened to your posting of hip hop violin, and found it very interesting.
If an open mind is kept, there is always some bits that can be used from all genres of fiddle / violin music and beyond.
Regards. aaldjul53.
