Cabin Luggage + Instrument Cases
« on: Jan 21, 2016, 06:54:44 PM »
There seems to be a constant rumbling of complaints about the way airlines treat musical instruments, Norwegian Airlines being the current gripe. I thought it might be useful to start a thread, not of moans but of answers.
So, if you have some solid information, or can link to some, post it here.
Also, although it won't help violists or cellists, there are various attempts to market violin cases as cabin luggage.
Two that I am aware of are :-

and
http://trinitycase.com/index.php
Please add more.

A small case from Bam, not quite specifying cabin use

An offering from BAM Cases, specifying cabin use. These put the bow in a separate container, as indeed they all must,  to be within the length restrictions:

United Airlines treated me relatively well.

I just had to make sure I lined up for my Group (United boards their passengers in assigned Groups) as soon as possible, to increase the odds of overhead space being available for my violin and its case.  There was one flight on which I was told to ask for closet storage, but at least it was in a closet inside the cabin, not checked in and tossed into the baggage hold.
