some bow value and ID help
« on: Aug 10, 2013, 12:26:57 AM »
Hello all.  I just picked up a violin with 2 bows at a pawn shop and could use some help IDing them.  The violin is older, half blocked and lined, with a sh*tty refinish job.  The bows I am more interested in.  First off, there is a substantial weight difference between these two.  The bow #1, which is lighter in color, weighs in at 42.9g and bow #2, marked Josef Richter, weighs in at 64g even.  Bow#1 has some interesting has marks under the hair and in front of the frog.  Initially I thought they were random, until I noticed the exact same marks on the bottom of the frog etched into the silver(?).  Both are octagonal, bow#1 has a slight warp to the right and bow #2 is straight as an arrow.  I have found other bows under the Josef Richter name, but haven't found too many prices yet.  Anything helps.
Thanks
Patrick
