I'm new to the forum and am looking for folks into Mandolin (disclaimer - I play bowed instruments too). I've got 5 from a classical bowl back to a 5 string Fender semi-hollow body electric.
Give us a shout out!

Hi!
I'm new here, but I DO have a mandolin, an old, long time ago disapeared maker from Poland I've bought for 50 euros and I still playing it. Flat back, folk style. Nice for that price.

I'm a former spanish bandurria player, so playing that and fiddle, it's very easy to play mando

I'm here too. I joined as a new fiddle player but I've been playing mandolin on and off for 54 years. Recently (three years) the mandolin hasn't been out of its case but have just got one out again - today.

It's one of the heavy, quiet, little Fylde mandolins which Fylde doesn't make any more and I'm wondering if I should just change the strings or whether it could do with some professional work. It's about 20 years old. The varnish on the top is looking a bit battered. The action was always very low and it certainly hasn't got any higher. The bridge is not adjustable. When the mandolin arrived as a gift 20 or so years ago the bridge was in the wrong place - as they always are - and I wouldn't be surprised if it is again. It all seems like a lot of work and I've put it back in the bag. Any motivational words?

I am a fiddler and keyboard player, but I also play a little mandolin, too. I have a Kentucky KM-1000 that I really like.

Yep, he said sheepishly.. I play a bit of mando in between fiddle bursts.  Bought an Epiphone a few years back and have used it a bit in gigs but I have to say the tendency to go out of tune under stage lights and the awkwardness of tuning it on the fly (8 strings!) has meant it gets used less than I would like.  I don't know if it's all mandos or  just mine that are so (sorry) fiddly to tune.
Now ear this!

They are quite a bit trickier to tune than a fiddle!

Funny how the thread was created 5 years ago.

Yes, I take a look here on occasion, but my plucked instrument is guitar, not mandolin.

I do wonder if there would be a benefit in tuning ease and stability from buying some top notch machine heads to replace those on the Epiphone?  There are quite a few advertised at higher prices, but they all look much the same in design to me! Anyone got any experience or recomendations on this?
