hello Jansberg,

thanks for having a look- what do you mean be being heavy? (I am a beginner when it comes to  websites!) - do you mean that some pages take too long to load?

you're website looks great- great fiddling! i went to a swedish fiddling workshop at cambridge folk festival a few years ago- i really enjoyed it-  i found the bowing and rhythm technique quite challenging!

cheers,

AnnaJ

Of course I remember - looks like you're doing nicely with Amsterdam now, big congrats!!! :)

The site is definately running slowely. What package are you using to do the main design? It looks like it's not been designed from scratch but is a template from a program, with a load of slow functionality? - just a guess.

Thanks Anna :)

it take a while for everything to load - heavy on my connection..

actually my website is made using WIX.com - not from a template but they have a complete editor online and it is very simple to use and update for small sites..

Madfiddler- cheers! yes i've used the iweb programme- and think maybe the way i've put the recordings up is slowing it down a tad......might try and change that or use a different music player?

thanks for hints and tips!

The speed issue is almost undoubtedly the size of your background images. It looks like you have two 500kb jpgs for your initial background, and you're only using a small portion of one of them.  On a 512kb adsl connection that would take over 15 seconds to download just those two files. If you resaved them at a lower jpg quality or a smaller resolution you would vastly improve your page loading times. Since the background images are quite dark anyway, a jpg quality setting of 50% shouldn't produce any noticeable artefacts. Also only upload the portion of the images you are actually using.

edited to fix my maths :)

I think you have the right of it. The Blog page with its tiled background is positively pokey, and my home DSL is a 3Mb dedicated connection. Using something like The GIMP to re-scale them at a lower resolution will definitely speed things up.

However, the overall design is just plain wonderful. Looks very professional.

Looks good - but runs slow on my computer - which I imagine is something to do with the images.
