Lee Ann / Leigh Ann Waltz?
« on: Apr 30, 2010, 12:31:59 PM »
I had a friend recommend the LeeAnn Waltz, and can't find any reference to it on the internet.  My guess is the name is wrong (a common thing with my friend : hospice turns into hostas, etc).

Does anyone know what the waltz might be really named?

Thanks.

Sort of like Googling LeeAnn Rhymes. ;D

We're all barking up wrong trees, Mat is heading for a nervous breakdown looking for it, and Lord Google ain't returning what we want .. .any chance of getting a small recorder and have him whistle the tune, and maybe someone will recognise it? :) :)

That's not an option, Stan couldn't sing the song for me ( and doesn't even remember the tune).  When he finds it, I'll die laughing to find out its Shenandoah Waltz, or   Lover's Waltz, or you know, LeeAnn Waltz.

...He couldn't sing the song? Or remember the tune?... Lover's waltz? .... hmmmm ..... maybe it's just a very subltle plan of his which ends up with him asking you to marry him .... :) :)

In the meantime, check out all the other good waltzes ... :)

Well, how about naming a few, so I can hunt them down?

Thanks.

"Archibald McDonald of Keppoch" here :  http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/6999 for starters. Strictly speaking, a waltz, but many do it as a slow air. I have more, but I need to locate the dots for them (names on their own mean nothing).

I found a great used CD of fiddle tunes payed by Vassar and Dale (among others) at McKays books in Chattanooga this weekend. One of the tunes on it is Irene Waltz-- which is what I'm thinking the mystery tune might be. I'll play the waltz for my friend tomorrow and see what he thinks.

Hey, I'm way late to the game here, but I found a reference to a "Lee Ann Waltz" on a Frankie Yankovic tribute CD by an accordionist named Tom Fudala of Richmond, VA  ...  "Lee Ann Waltz (Remembering Frankie Yankovic Volume 2)".

Check out track 12 on the CD picture:

Could that be it?

Tom is clearly a serious accordion dude, as he plays both kinds of polkas, Slovenian and Cleveland style (for the American pop-culture impaired, yes, that's a reference to the Blues Brothers movie!) and he's available for all occasions. Short of hiring him, you could buy his CD, or maybe set up a phone conference with your friend and Tom. Maybe he'd email you an mp3 snippet?

Here's Tom's discography on his website and a few other TF references:
http://sites.google.com/site/trfudala/discography
http://www.polkas.nl/tomfudala~home.html
http://sites.google.com/site/trfudala/home

[Edit] Apparently "Lee Ann Waltz" appears on 2 of Frankie Yankovic's albums:
- My Very Best
- Polka Variety

Sadly, I don't think these ever made it to CD (let alone the itunes store or amazon).

I had no idea how incredibly prolific Frankie Yankovic was: here's a list of his albums (31 pages worth!) http://www.polkas.nl/frankieyankovic~album~1.html
truly mind-boggling (both to comprehend magnitude of and probably to listen to).
