Maggie May
« on: Apr 12, 2010, 01:47:51 AM »
I've been working on the intro and solo to Maggie May.  We have a jam session here on Wednesdays and I think that would be a good piece to bring to it.  I can play the intro and the solo sufficiently, but, hopefully someone will sing.  I'm not really a singer and it's really really hard to sing during the solo part (Rod comes in about 2 or 3 measures into the solo and the mandolin keeps doing it's solo thing.)  I don't know how people play and sing at the same time.  A skill I definitely do NOT have.

That's a good one for a jam.

You want to be able to play and sing a song about an ode the "joys of older women"*... ;D

*"You Wear it Well" is the other one, isn't it?

LOL  I guess it isn't quite the appropriate song for me to sing, but I was trying to sing and play the solo part.  Not easy to do!  I can't make my fingers work while I'm thinking about the lyrics or vice-versa.

Edit: Couldn't find it on youTube, but Lou Ann Barton does a killer "Rocket in my Pocket" as a favorite "gender role reversal." :)
Edit2: Obligatory on-topic material... I can't strum a single chord and sing over it. I'd never make it in country-western music.

You're totally wrong - that's exactly what would make you a star!!!!

****EDIT : Ever seen these guys singing and playing guitar ... then they just stop playing and continue singing .. that's what I'm referring to.

Well, I DID play my mandolin intro to Maggie May.  Unfortunately, nobody seemed to know the words (how can you not know Maggie May...honestly!) and I ended up singing--which is never a good thing!  LOL
