Some visitors at the house this morning, and they have similar cases to the one DW got:

US $40 plus shipping lately, from Shar. Guess which one is whose...

Hmm, interesting.  How many bows can the tube handle?

I like these cases. What is their name? Can't find them on Shar.

I found it - it's called the Heritage Traveller nano case.  Usually goes for 80.00.  I think it's an oulet item.

Yeah, it's this one.

To Martyn goes the pride of the victory, or at least 33% of it. :D

I just now slipped two bows into the velvet-lined tube, but had to turn one of them frog to tip to get them to fit. They seemed comfortable that way.

The one on the right is Jean's, decorated by herself. DW's is the one with her business card tucked in between the two outside pockets.

Can you take a raincheck? At least you would get one for the sale price.

I went ahead and bought it at on back order, gets the sale price and it will just be a surprise when it shows up.  Oddly hard choice to make, cost less than a set of strings but do I really need it...?

So far I've found mine to be very practical - esp if you're at an event where you may have it on your back for any length of time.  There's enough pockets so that I can ditch my handbag and keep what I need in one place.  It definitely takes the stress off my back as well.

B'sides you can personalise it to make it easy to pick out from other cases...

Unfortunalty, the "backorder" notation seems to be an error, they have told me the case is discontinued so my backorder was canceled.

Shar has had this case for a long time - but also for a long time, you couldn't order it, it was only (supposedly!) available to come with one or two of their instruments.  It showed up on their website - then it went away.  Then this time it showed up at this really nice price... I have a suspicion that perhaps the manufacturer only makes up one batch at a time, every now & then.

With the Shar backpack gone, I decided on this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Violin-Case-Gig-Bag-NEW-Cool-New-Colors-Wine-Black_W0QQitemZ270447761083QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef7f156bb&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I liked the size of the Shar better, and I'd rather have a bow tube, but this may be close to what I'm looking for. I'll give an update when I get it next week.

mandopickr, Looks like an interesting case, I found the manufacturers website:  http://www.gig-bags.com/  with some more info.  The seller on e-bay doesn't seem to carry the vioilin case on their direct sales site.

The case came in today. It was not exactly what I was expecting, but very nice. It is a molded case, exterior and interior. The case is covered with a heavy polyester fabric, put on either during the molded process, or shortly thereafter, impregnated into the mold. The height is about 32", and about 12" at the widest. It is a little less than 8" deep.

The interior compartment is form-fit for the violin. My fiddle fit perfectly. The retention strap is not velcro, but rather is connected by magnets on each side of the neck. Also included in the main compartment a removable, zippered "pouch".

On the front is a padded zippered main pocket about 18" high, and 10" wide. It is deep enough to carry your shoulder rest, and includes three other padded pockets that are 3"x3".

The padded 2" shoulder straps are permanently mounted, and include a carry handle. There is also a handle on the side.

Outside of the main compartment, the next nicest part of this case are the two bow sleeves.
The bows slide in from the top, and have a zippered, molded cover.
These sleeves are formed in the molded process on the backside of the case and should provide much more protection than with a typical case.

I like smaller cases, and though this case is not as small as my dart case, it is closer to that size than any other case I have, plus I have places for mutes, strings, etc, and my shoulder rest. All in all, a very nice case. I'll be using this case as I travel through Labor Day weekend.

The bow holder in those is pretty clever.  It's definitely on my list if I need a replacement, just doesn't bring quite enough for a spare.

I have a GIG case the same as these. I can confirm that after two years it is as good as the day I bought it and it has been in some bad weathers and at some high speeds as I originally bought it when I used to go to my fiddle lessons on my bike (motor! )
