ABC Conversion
« on: May 11, 2009, 07:15:12 PM »
I have recently had some trouble with converting ABC files from the Fiddler's Companion site.  I have used the Tune-o-meter at Concertina as well as another converter I saw in a recent thread for the tune "Fall on My Knees," but I only see the song title on Concertina and the other file converter states:  "no valid K field."  The key is written as D on the Fiddler's Companion site.

Does anyone have suggestions?  I have run into this problem with other tunes on FC as well.  I am not that familiar with ABC.
Thanks,
Barry

I seem to remember that with Fiddlers Companion abc tunes, when you copy and paste them you end up with every other line blank.  Try going through and eliminating all blank lines and making sure each line ends with a line break and see if that fixes your problem.  You might also search for the tune in JC's abc tunefinder instead; I believe the site indexes Fiddler's Companion and I seem to remember that John added code to get rid of Fiddler's Companion's extra lines.  Good luck! -Steve

Oh, also, make sure the tune code starts with an X field, i.e., the first line should read, e.g., "X:1" (without the quotes).  I don't think that lack gives the error you got, though. -Steve

take out the B: line.  for whatever reason, the concertina.net converter doesn't like it.

Thanks, guys.
I deleted the extra lines (it pastes as a double-spaced document like Steve W said) and it works fine, thanks.

Yup. I've gotten used to starting at the end and backspacing at the beginning of each line. Works pretty well that way.
I want to be a musician when I grow up.
Sorry, son, you can't do both.

Fall for it nearly every time. Then realise and take out the spaces. Then realise again and add X.
