Nice resource...
« on: Mar 19, 2009, 07:21:18 AM »
This evening I found the website for the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles.  One more reason to get over to the park one Sunday.

Anyway, for those just learning, they have up a very nice page of tunes to learn, dots and mp3 of the tune on mando.

see here:  http://web.me.com/kathleenbawn/SFLA_Tunes/Core_Tunes.html

Neat! Nice list of standards, and I notice the Iron Man pdf has some double-stops penciled in. I'm still working on rendering a believable strathspey, and this might help.
I want to be a musician when I grow up.
Sorry, son, you can't do both.

Looks like California Traditional Music Society has a buncha sessions/sessiuns of all kinds:

The LA Scottish fiddling group usually has a pretty strong presence at the Scottish Games (which got moved back to the Orange County Fairgrounds this year), which is a good place to see them, provided you can hear over the pipe & drum competitions!

Yep, CTMS website is where I found them.  I keep meaning to get over to something there since CTMS is so  very close to me.
