I made my own version some time back.....
Used a piece of cheap trouser braces material.....stitched velcro @ each end...then thread under the tailpiece and pull down tight toward the endpin.....join the velcro...then just fit it ...
The elasticated material means you just stretch it over. The elastic hugging effect means the strap does'nt wander once fited comfortably
It is quite liberating to use....the head can freely revolve (within normal parameters!) on the neck whilst playing.
Also allows you to re-think you posture a little.............best bit was it was effectively free!
Another advantage is you can easily dump the chinrest if desired.......

I bought that one for my viola mainly.. don't need it that often but for longer rehearsal sessions or practicing it's nice I thought.
It was stated that it fits for any violin/viola. Ok so I tested it out and guess what ?
My viola is too thick  :o  :o
But luckily only the screw is too short else it works.. the chin rest is also quite at it's limit... (sorry no photos of that at this time..)

Question is only where to get such screws...

I'd be really interested in this only my viola is probably even thicker than yours, it's quite unusually thick. Is this thing adaptable or  not worth ordering for me?
did they ship it to you from australia - don't you live in Germany (du bist doch auch aufm deutschen fiddleforum, oder?)?

It's adaptable. But there is a height limit on the telescope similar metal. I estimate the max height is 5cm. The screw is only 2cm so I'd estimate the normal max is 4.6cm. The height for my viola is 4.8 cm so it's still possible but not with the 2cm screw. I'd need at least 2mm longer better 5mm.

Reinhard

well let's go measure the viola... i bought one of those fishman pickups which are fixed in a similar way on the instrument and it fit a "normal" viola but not mine...

Yeah, forgot to answer the "german", yes I'm in the fiddle.de Forum. Hallo aus dem Schwabenländle ;)
Good luck on measuring. I have not looked up yet fishman so I can't tell. I only do electric viola playing.

Gruß / Regards,

Reinhard

its nearly six centimetres! That should be ok :-).
doesn't that screw damage the instrument??
did you order it directly from australia?

Ups.. forgot this one completely.

1) I ordered from UK

2) The screw does not damage my Reiter Alien (I).

I really never dared to even touch the chinrest holder on my viola. I once tried to find a titan replacedment for the nickle that is not that good for my skin but I only found normal height (in germany at least).
