That is a perfect example of what is wrong with loopers!

they just go on

and on

and on

and on

and on

and on

Not unpleasant but just going nowhere, sort of makes me crave for the Sex Pistols!

Yes, that can be quite annoying. Fortunately, it needn't be that way. If you don't know her yet, check out Zoe Keating. She does beautiful music with a cello and looper, and it doesn't get boring at all: http://music.zoekeating.com/album/into-the-trees

hmm, just checked out Zoe Keating on youtube and she is quite good at looping and arranging at the same time IMO.

In general looping has one big drawback imo - almost every song has to be build up step by step - that is why it takes forever to get a song going..

Well, it's even worse if you play solo without a looper  ;)

Sorry for going a little off-topic:
For me a looper is more than an effect box. It has to be learned like an instrument. And if you use it creatively, you can get some amazing music out of it.
If anybody is interested in this, I very much recommend the Looper's Delight mailing list. There is also a LiveLooping channel on youtube with some very inspiring videos.

ofuk, I've been doing it wrong for 43 years. I'm outa here. I want my money back, etc  LOL

I'm guessing it's like everything else : be creative, be good, be original, but that's easier said than done, isn't it? To be honest I'd get more satifaction from using a backing track, or warm bodies, but that's just me.

My favorite video as well as player ...

Miss Emilie Autumn

There need to be more female violinists that play for fun !

You want fun?  Its hard to beat Carrie Rodriguez for someone having fun playing.  This vid a tune called Elzic's Farewell.

well, no..

I was only kidding. There's nothing wrong with playing solo, of course.
I just wanted to point there are other ways to use a looper than recording a static backing and playing over it.

This one is my favorite ;-)

You really have to listen to it either with headphones or on a stereo to completely appreciate it...

It took me a while, but it just came to me, I think he's humming into it, using the body as a sounding cavity

Natalie is great.  I've seen her a few times, the last time she was pregnant and still dancing!

I'd have to say that one of the key inspirational characters in my violin learning experience would have to be Donnell Leahy, and most all of his YouTube videos are my favorite :)
