You don't have to go with the second measure or the Key, that is, if you're the second one to get your hands on this. ;)

Definately has potential. It seems to be two bars each, which I think is a good idea.

Again I know how I'd finish it but I don't want to get greedy here!  Does anyone else feel that the transition from the first ending to the first measure of the A part is a little awkward?  I'm having trouble with those 2 A's in a row but I don't know how I'd change it. -Steve

As we say in the software business, "it's not a bug, it's a feature". I quite like those two A's. I've been playing them in one bow, as if I was coming in early on the first note, if you see what I mean.

The second part feels to me like it's lacking something, but I don't really know what.

I felt the same even though I wrote much of the B part. I went back and modified measures 4 and 5 of the B part. Actually, I trashed the 5 measure totally. My favorite measure in the tune is measure 5 of the A part. I decided to try and tie the B part back to A part by making my measure 5 match the A part measure 5. Yeah, Yeah, I know. It's an octave higher and it's missing that tasty drop to the B note but I made sure it led into Steve's 6th measure nicely.

Is it better Simon? Can you but your finger on something like about where it should be different or is it the whole B in General?

That seems better, though I need my fiddle really. :) You're definately on the right track with the 5th measure thing. I think that's what I couldn't put my finger on, the tune just didn't feel cohesive. I just noticed my 3rd bar in the second part is the same shape as the 2nd bar in the first part. That wasn't deliberate, and I'm not even sure I like it, but I guess it was an attempt to tie the two parts together.

Try it one more time Simon. I had a second thought and just changed measure 5 a little more.

And Thanks.

I Like it. A little tweaking went a long way. Nice ending Simon. I'm sure Steve had a really good one in mind himself.

It's chord time. Yes!!!

I like this ending, actually!  I'll be interested to see how it plays on the fiddle.  At first I thought the 4th measure in the B part was sort of awkward but it's growing on me after hearing it a few times! -Steve

I thought that at first too.  "cde fdg" would be more obvious, but the B is growing on me as well. I'd probably play the d sometimes as a variation. Likewise I'd vary the last note of the 5th measure in each part - it could be either B or E (in the relevant octave naturally).

I'll see what grows on me after fiddling on it a bit. It's interesting and it had to grow on me as well.

Uh Oh I changed it to a "d" users choice I imagine. Some one check my chords please. That rythym chorder at concertina make me shudder on the jigs and I'm not sure I pegged it right.

Edited

Good lord, All I had to do was hit cntl V. How hard is that?

I think there are too many notes in it!

The A part is kind of reverse Irish, an Irish tune will often zip away until the turn and this does the opposite, but the second part doesn't allow one to draw breath anywhere! I've pulled out a few notes to let the mind fill in what the ear doesn't need to hear, and let the flute player get nearer his pint. Any thoughts?

Martin,

I vote no. Flute players will invariably find the places to catch their breath. It is true that this tune is written to a fiddlers slant and I really prefer it that way. To "me" it seems like the tune watered down a bit with the modifications. It's all personal preference.

Now we have two versions of the tune and there isn't a thing wrong with that. Here is the first version with chords. Yes I will actually verify that I press ctrl V.   :silly1:
