www.thesession.org has it in the key of G... but maybe it can steer you to transpose to key of F...

It's in F on page 160 of Mark O'Connor - The Championship Years published by Mel Bay.
I want to be a musician when I grow up.
Sorry, son, you can't do both.

I don't understand the general obsession with fiddle contests, nor the need for a specific version done by somebody else.  Don't the great fiddlers put their own stamp on a tune, so to speak?  How does one stand out from the crowd if they lean heavily on somebody else's version?  Also, how can a winner be proud of a win in such a subjective judging environment?  And what does a win do for a fiddler among his/her fellow fiddlers?  Do they think, "He won a contest, he just went up a notch in my estimation?"  What does a win do for you?  How about second or third place?  I can see how the experience itself might be worth it, but are there any other benefits?

I guess I just don't get it. Someone care to explain it to me?

The sound you may have heard a bit earlier was me thinking a similar thing whilst biting my tongue. I think there is great value in being able to "play it just like the record."

I've noticed that really good players can sound like whoever they want to. Really good graphic artists, for that matter, can draw like whomever they want to. Doesn't mean they don't have their own style, just means that their outstanding grasp of the "language" lets them throw in a quotation or two along the way, enriching the whole deal.

The greats all learnt by copying the older greats, no?

Although if you're really hardcore you don't buy the sheet music, you transcribe it yourself. ;)
