I've cured my IAS........
« on: Apr 10, 2008, 07:26:20 PM »
no, not really!! ;D

In response to the 12 string guitar thread, please allow me to present my new baby.

small bodied 12 which came home from work with me today.

walnut back & sides, Engleman spruce top, maple binding, mahogany maple 3 piece neck, rosewood fretboard & bridge, bone nut, saddle & pins (yes, only 6), purpleheart rosette, brass TRC.

Walnut & mahogany came from a skip, maple came from a builders yard, fretboard & top came freom "real" suppliers!!

preamp has a built in tuner (well, you need it on a 12, right?)

soundclick

my only gripe is that the headstock is too wide.

Ah well, it's a keeper, so no customer to whinge about it!!

The guitar is lovely. And she sounds very satisfying, with a full range.
Congratulations. The headstock is a little blocky, but it's not important to the sound and the sound is the point, after all.
I must admit, although the second photo in this thread is fascinating... I have the sense that I've walked in on a private joke. Why in the world would a photo of my mother-in-law be put on this page?

The only really elegant solution I've seen to getting 12 tuners on one compact headstock is Rickenbacker's, on their 12-string electrics, it's a hybrid of what's done on classical guitars and normal steel-string guitars... it's nice 'cuz you don't get mixed up on which tuner goes to which string, which is easy on the more traditional 12-strings.

No, you just don't watch Dr. Who: ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_monsters_and_aliens#O
The Ood are a humanoid species with coleoid tentacles on the lower portions of their faces. In the distant future (circa 42nd century), the Ood are a slave race to humanity, performing menial tasks, and it is claimed that every human has an Ood servant. According to human characters in their first appearance, the Ood offer themselves for servitude willingly, having no goals of their own except to be given orders and to serve. It is also claimed that they cannot look after themselves, and if they do not receive orders, they pine away and die. However, mention is made of a group called the "Friends of the Ood" who are apparently lobbying for Ood freedom. Ood also have purple blood.

What's the white cord hanging out of the Ood's head?  His iPod earphones?  USB cable?  drinking straw?
Eat food.  Not too much.  Mostly plants.

It seems that's where his other brain used to be, the one that kept him thinking independently. Now it connects to a translation sphere for the command language.
I want to be a musician when I grow up.
Sorry, son, you can't do both.
