butterfly Stickers - and pink microfleece!!
« on: Feb 17, 2008, 03:00:29 AM »
Some time last year, a friend got herself an electric bass at some ridiculous price at a store closing sale, and began teaching herself to play it.  The instrument was plain but certainly adequate.

Then, shortly after Christmas, it changed.  Amazing, seemingly airbrushed designs appeared all at once.  The servicable instrument became instantly eye-catching.

Apparently her daughters had found some "tattoos for guitar" at the local music shop.  These "tattoos" are stickers.  But.  They aren't sticky stickers!  They're static cling-ons.  They just hold themselves on; no sticky-stuff at all.  You can put them where you want - and take them off again.  (Like, before you go visit your luthier...  :o)

The pictures included Ugly Aztec-style masks & what-not, foliage with naked lady & etc.  (Well, actually, the masks weren't all that ugly - the colors were great - just the expressions on them...)  Various designs of that sort.  I went to the music store, where I found the other selections weren't any better.

So.  A couple weeks ago I went to a crafts store.  In the home decor part of the store, with supplies for stenciling the walls, and wall-stickers for people who don't want to stencil.... there were also static cling-on stickers(for indecisive people who really don't want to stencil...  ;))

Well, recently I have been re-decorating my low-fiddle's home. (It's an excessively spacious ebay double-case).  I had already installed a few pink-microfleece-covered foam blocks, and then I came across a lovely butterfly-woven satin.  I'm now alternating the pink with the butterfly-weave fabric.

So there I was in the crafts store, with a big selection of... well... admittedly large-ish cling-ons to choose from.  And - look - that one is all butterflies!!  A match for my fiddles' home's decor!   ;D >:D;D

Did I mention that they're kind of big? ...  oh well...  >:D  One on back of each fiddle, and two or more for the front.   >:D  No one is going to mistakenly pick up my instrument instead of their own!

I'm trying... really I am!
It doesn't let me attach.  It says, to go "back" & try again.
So, I change file size & try again.... and it says I already posted... even though it didn't!
So - I start over with a whole new post.  NOW it says I already pasted the photo -- but it never let me!!!  Aaaarrrggh!

Trying once more....

:o   I love butterflies and they look great on your fiddle!!!

Do you remember the arts & crafts store?  Was it Michael's?

I'm on a mission to find these!  8)

Great share, Jen!

What are the black dots that can be seen on the left f-holes on both violins?

I think it was probably AC Moore - I think... (they're both near each other & I may have gone to both - but - I think I got them at AC Moore.)

(Oh, and the black butterfly fabric was a remnant from Walmart's.)

(Sorry to take so long to reply, I kind of forgot about this thread...)

uhhhh..... brand of case... ah, cheapo case from ebay that doesn't fit right - thus the need for extra padding - but, due to very low cost, was still a reasonably good buy.

Those would be damp-its.  (Or maybe the generic version thereof - my music store ran out of the regular kind, when I had misplaced one from last year.)

Looks like one of the double violin cases from Musician's Storehouse, I think they are Guardian cases. For the longest time they were $79, with shipping. Haven't seem them listed lately.

EEP! I love that!!!!! Exactly what I need for my violin! But not butterflies... Something more manly like a bear. (ROAR!) I wonder if you can make your own static clingons...
Do they affect the sound at all? Any buzzing or dampening?

Well - keeping in mind that my fiddle is basically a very basic model with a likable sound - they actually don't seem to affect the sound at all.  :)  IF you can find a crafts store that has these things (I think I got mine at GC Moore), they'll have them in all sorts of different patterns.  More feminine than masculine - since it is a crafts store - but they do have stuff for women who want to decorate their guys' rooms ;) too....

Otherwise, what got me started looking for them -- they're actually making cling-ons specifically for guitars.  Called Guitar Tattoos.  And the people making them apparently don't believe anyone would want pretty stuff for an electric guitar...  ;)

I went and bought some from the dollar tree. They are very large, and I don't quite know how they'll fit on my violin, but on is a tropical pelican type thing, another is a red macaw, and the other is a blue hyacinth. I'll try them out tomorrow, when I can get to my violin. Now if only I could post pictures... ;)
