Lint in Violins
« on: Dec 30, 2003, 02:38:05 AM »
This may be a weird question, but I have a lint ball in my violin and I'm just wondering if I could get it out some how. I don't think it bothers anything, but I was just curious.
Also, One time someone stuck a quarter in someone's base. Any ideas on how to get that out, too?

I used a long straight forceps to remove a lintball from a violin I had borrowed. Used the F hole on the bass bar side, stay away from the sound post.

I believe a small handful of dry rice can be used to remove lint.

Drop 20 or so grains through the f hole, swish them around gently to catch the dust bunnies, the pour it all out while holding the fiddle upside down. The dust comes out with the rice.

I've never tried this myself, but it sounds sensible. I don't think it works for quarters though.

I don't know if there is any similarity between a bass and a guitar, but whenever I drop my pick into the soundhole of my guitar and can just turn it upside down and shake for a while.
