I had to go and buy this:

Eastman MD815

Sure is fun to transfer tunes to the mando.

So, you're messing about with a blonde then ;)

Edit:  Oops, forgot to say, nice looking mando. I hope you are both very happy together.

Oooh, that's pretty. But, I know what you mean about time. I promised myself that I wouldn't let the mando interfere with fiddle practice - but it's a challenge. What I do is take my mando with me to work every day and spend part of my lunch hour in a park nearby practicing. Plus, I plunk around with it in the evenings during commercials and out in the backyard. It's not as, what's the word? frigging loud, as my fiddle - so the wife doesn't banish me to the back of the house.

btw - just played the kentucky 505 - nice mando for the price.  Not going to tell you all where it's at - since they're on back order everywhere!  And I'm considering buying it :-)
Though I see Janet Davis is showing some in stock.

Best,
Jen Ford

After 3 weeks with my new mandolin I noticed that I'm able to play the mandolin while sitting around with the family and it doesn't seem to bother them.  They play games or talk, and I can pluck away on tunes and hymns.  I even put my brother and son to sleep one afternoon.

So it certainly doesn't interfere with the violin.  It's just easier to pull out and pluck.  Whereas with the fiddle I have to go to a different room and shut the door.

So far no callouses, I've been keeping as light pressure as possible.

You think you've got problems.

My hornpipe arrived last night. At the moment I can get a note out of it and, given time I might be able to get that note in tune, then it's scales and eventually a tune.

If any one has a spare embouchure going begging could they please let me know.

Mine is in rosewood like the one on the left.

Cool hornpipe Jeff!  Will you bring it to FH in Nov?

Even though I've had my mando for several months my fiddle is still the insturment of choice.  I use the Mando for evenings when I'm too tired to focus on my fiddling or just want to relax and pluck about on the thing.
Fun, relaxing and helps me learn tunes by ear too.

Depends. Is yes, going to be taken as a threat or a promise?

Careful Jeff ,  you're gettin' awful close to the danger zone now ....

The next thing you'll be messing with is a Welsh BAGPIPE  or something ...

What a beauty! Congratulations! I was just thinking the other day that it's just as well that I'm self employed as it gives me plenty of time to practice all my various instruments!

Thanks NH,
I really like blonde instruments.  I wanted to get my fiddle in blonde, but it wasn't available.  I spend 2 to 4 nights a month in hotel rooms where it's just not politic to practice fiddle.  The mando fits the bill perfectly.
