Fiddle Hell Tunebook
« on: May 10, 2006, 06:25:36 PM »
The idea behind this is to allow ff members who may be visiting Fiddle Hell UK 2006 to contribute some of their favourite tunes to play in the fhsessions.

Here is my selection. The first four tunes are played as one set.

Oh yeah, just thought I'd better add, whilst I like these tunes a lot, they're not some of my favourites... but if I was to put in my favourite tunes some people'd probably want to hurt me (most of my favourite tunes are pipe tunes) and also I thought it might be nice to contribute ones that people can use in sessions elsewhere as well... because a lot of my favourite tunes are pipey they're not so widely played. :)

Ooh, thanks everyone - plenty to be practising there! :)

As an aside, does anyone know of a way to get multiple tunes to display on one page as dots? I'm using the concertina.net tune-o-tron, but it will only let me convert one tune at a time, and now I have lots of pages each with only a few lines of music on. I'm rather ABC-illiterate, so maybe there's a better way...

Nat, I use ABC2Win, but there's a registration fee if you want to print. I'm sure you can get good results with abc2ps or other alternatives. I'll bring a few printouts of the tunes anyway.

Natalie, I use ABC Navigator because there is a section of the program that allows you to print your abc tunes onto one page. Also, the print out quality is excellent and can be enlarged for those of us who now suffer from less than perfect vision :)
Unbelievably, it is totally freeware.

I use the same, but instead of trying to print with ABC2Win I use the "Copy Page Bitmap to Clipboard" on the "Copy/Paste" menu, then paste into MS Publisher.

I have been printing off the tunes and running them back-to-back (on the school's copier.) I plan to bind them into a book (with the school's binding machine.)  I printed off a nice cover (on the school's nice color printer in the computer lab) with FH-UK 2006 in a font that looks like green marble.  Then I was laminating it (on the school's laminator.)  I was completely paranoid that I would get in trouble with my principal--not for using school stuff, but for the almost swearing in the title.   ;D  ;D

That's sort of what I'm planning on doing (minus the laminating - I'll just have to be careful not to spill beer on mine ;)).

Realistically, I'm probably going to forget to print half of them, forget to bring half of the tunes I print, and spill beer on the rest at some point early on Friday afternoon. Just poke me with a big stick and tell me what yous're going to play and I'll join in anyway. ;)

All of the above, and then don't even tell me what you're going to play because I won't remember the names. I've known those first two sets of tunes Simon posted for a long time and didn't have a clue about the names, so I'm not going to remember them now ;)

Here's a couple more tune sets that came out when I was practising last night. I think the names that I have are right, I know the jig at the bottom has the same name as a reel Simon posted, giving Scartaglen more tunes than it has houses (tis a wee spot in Kerry):

I have a question about AbcNavigator...on some of the tunes listed here (for instance The Hole in the Hedge and Paddy Fahey's, plus a few others), it seems to insert random notes at the beginning of the sheet music, even though they aren't listed in the ABC, and when I copy & paste exactly the same ABC into Concertina.net it works fine and the random notes aren't there. Does anyone have any ideas? I can't find a help file in the program...

I realise this is the wrong place to post this, but figured I would do so anyway because it's related to the FH tunebook!

I had that too, it's something in the headers not sure what, but moving the line with the type of tune for instance up a few lines helped. In the edit field the offending line will be marked. Fix it so there's no red markings and it's fixed.

Aha, bingo! That fixed it - thank you! :)
