The Banjo-Fiddle?

Just wondering how many of you here are familiar with the Banjo-Fiddle?
{ http://www.bolick.net/recordings/banjo/instruments.html }

I'm guessing that they're very rare?

Is this one in fact the only one ever made?

If you have heard or, better still, played one, what did they sound like?

Should they be more widely known & available do you think?

What a monster that looks!  I guess it's the lack of f holes that makes the body look so big. On the picture on the album cover the instrument looks quite small tucked under the players arm.

I like the carved peg head but it may be a bit out of proportion on a standard fiddle.

I can't find a sample recording to listen to on the site, that would have been interesting.
