A Steve Perry (Gianna) Violin
« on: June 30, 2003, 08:10:52 PM »
Here are some pictures of my new fiddle made by Steve and Gianna Perry at Gianna Violin makers. I expect to take delivery in mid July and can't wait as I'm using what amounts to a used cigar box at this time.  I'll fill you in on the details about how it plays when I get my hands on it.
Just to let folks know it was a very enjoyable and interactive process working with Steve and if the fiddle plays half as well as the steps leading to the creation, it will be excellent instrument.

Wow, one of ours.  This is a really nifty little fiddle.  Check out the beautiful grain in the top.  Probably why it plays so easily.

Thanks!

I recieved the violin from Gianna on Friday and have just given it a break.  What a joy to both look at and to play!  Sort of like the difference between swill and a fine wine, both are wines, but they a vastley different in all ways in comparing my old violin to the Gianna.

My Gianna projects like it has pick ups hidden inside, and in general makes my attempts to play music sound like music! It has a soul, already.  I can hardly wait until it settles into itself over time, it will really be fun to grow with this violin.  I was really worried that  I had built up in my mind a too, high an expectation of what it would sound like... the violin exceeded my expectations.

Cudo's to Steve and Gianna Perry, I recommend highly their craft!

well blush blush.  Glad you like it.  Its all those secret plutonium 238 thermocouple generators driving the piezo amps.

I have sent Mark (Madfiddler) a picture of the  back of my violin as I'm still behind the curve on using the capacity of my computer- same thing goes for a link to a recording.  I will work on it though!

Lightly shaded handcrafted spirit varnish.  I can't recall the exact tint used.  Normally we have a yellow undertone.  I really like the black & white fittings and the bone slice at the nut.  Can't see in the remaining images, but I'll get a page up on this fiddle at some point.  Sounded very nice to me, as well.  Six more under way at the moment, keeping me busy.
